This is one of those places that I’ve driven past hundreds of times and wondered, what’s that? but never actually been to. I decided to go and see what was there and feel better for finally knowing. It’s a collection of burial chambers hewn into the stone and you can follow a trail up the side of the hill, taking a look inside and trying to imagine life all those many, many years ago. There is also glowing moss in some of the caves, though it wasn’t in evidence when I visited.
There’s a little visitor centre there and some activities like making your own pottery Haniwa or carving a soapstone keychain but again, when I went there was no one about.
After having a pleasant stroll round I went out to look at the surrounding area. There are trails around but I couldn’t figure it out so I decided to come back for a walking challenge another day.
