埼玉県平和資料館・Saitama Peace Museum

November 17th

Start&Finish: Takasaka station

The weather: Beautiful and sunny, warm in the sunshine, chilly in the shade.

Outfit/Equipment: Jeans, tshirt, jumper, lightweight shoes.

Map: I walked to the Peace Museum, then on to the Shimininomori.

Crowds: There was a stamp rally for kids in the shiminnomori, but not too crazy.

Time: Around three hours.

Difficulty: 20,530 steps.

Another day without my hiking buddy, but too beautiful to waste, so I headed back to the Takasaka area (see previous post). The walk to the Peace Museum isn’t particularly scenic, but there are wide pavements and statues dotted along the road up to the station. The museum itself is another place I’ve driven past so many times, and seen the tower during many trips to the nearby zoo, but never actually visited. The museum is set in a pretty little park with quite a few people out walking their dogs. The museum itself has some interesting exhibits on the Second World War and then an elevator up the eye-catching tower with a stunning view at the top. Entrance to the museum is free and it’s well worth stopping by.

I then walked on to the shiminnomori and followed the trail map that I found there. It’s a nice area with easy to follow trails, through trees and out into open grassland. There happened to be a kids rally going on when I arrived so there were lots of check points scattered about and kids activities making for a friendly atmosphere. The beautiful weather also made it a very enjoyable walk.
