November 10th

Start&Finish: Nishi Agano station to Agano station
The weather: Overcast with occasional bursts of sunshine.
Outfit/Equipment: Long sleeve top, tshirt, warm outdoor trousers (from workman), light down vest, hat.
Map: This is the route we were supposed to be following.
Crowds: A few hiking groups around but we only seemed to meet at the lookout points / temples along the trail.
Time: 9:30 – 1:30.
Difficulty: 26,754 steps.
I for one was tired before we even set out. Maybe it was the weather, which was grey and overcast, or the prospect of a long, cold winter ahead, but never really got into my stride. We got hopelessly lost around Takayama Fudoson back tracking a few times but never finding our way back to the trail. We gave up and once again found ourselves following a long, lonely, winding road back down to the station.
This area of Agano has a lot of sugi; trees grown for their wood, so it’s not an area noted for the changing colours. However there was the odd maple along the way just starting to show the first tinges of Autumn colour.
