November 4th

Start&Finish: Higashi Matsuyama station to Takasaka station.
The weather: Beautiful, warm sunshine.
Outfit/Equipment: light trousers, t-shirt, hat, sunglasses, hiking shoes.
Map: Google maps and paper maps from the Higashi Matsuyama Walking Center
Crowds: Lots of people at the beginning, then thinned out to the odd hiker.
Time: Somewhere around 4 hours walking.
Difficulty: 26,852 steps.
I was still not confident to hike alone in the mountains so I decided to walk from Higashi Matsuyama station to Takasaka station. If you visit the walking center at Higashi Matsuyama there are plenty of maps and trails to follow but I found the maps too information heavy and couldn’t really follow them. Instead I was lucky enough to clash with a Three Day March being held in Higashi Matsuyama where you can sign up for hikes of varying lengths. There were loads of people; families, couples, schools and walking groups, all out enjoying the sunshine. I admit I followed them for some of the way as they also seemed to be heading in the same direction, but split away when they curved back towards Higashi Matsuyama. It’s a pretty area and it made a very nice walk, plus the weather was perfect.
I ended up at the shiminnomori which was a very nice wooded area with interesting trails dotted about. I was exhausted by this point and not in any state to explore but earmarked it for a later date.
