顔振峠・Kaaburi Toge

October 27th

Start&Finish: Agano station to Higashi Agano station.

The weather: High Low

Outfit/Equipment: lightweight trousers, t-shirt, hat, sunglasses, but starting to get a bit chilly in the shade.

Map: We followed this course. Well, we tried anyway.

Crowds: Crowds: Not a soul to be seen

Time: We started hiking at 9 and got back to the station at 1:30

Difficulty: 24,374 steps.

This was another beginner level hike, so whilst it was definitely mountain hiking it wasn’t too steep and a very enjoyable walk. The weather was overcast and there was a definite chill out of the sunshine, but as soon as the sun came out it was nice and warm again.

Towards the end the path becomes a small paved road that runs along beside a river and we were lucky enough to find teeny tiny crabs scuttling across the path in front of us.

Sadly we went hopelessly wrong at some point and joined this final road much higher up the mountain than we were supposed to. Actually getting to the road, which we could just spy between the trees, involved sliding down a muddy bank and through the garden of an abandoned house but we slithered out onto the road eventually. We walked and walked and walked as it wound its way down the mountain. We figured if it was going downhill we’d get to a road eventually and thankfully, we did. We were very grateful to reach the safety of the station that day.
